The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspect in connection with a case of unlawful entry and stealing at Spintex in Accra, recovering large sums of money and several other suspected stolen items.
The arrest follows a complaint by a resident who reported that on March 4, 2026, she returned home from work at about 4:00 p.m. to find that her house had been broken into.
According to the police in a statement, cash amounting to GH¢1,000 and $22,350, together with other valuable personal effects, had been stolen from the residence.
Acting on intelligence, officers arrested the suspect, Daniel Odai Afotey, at Labone Beach on March 11, 2026.
Police said a subsequent search of his room led to the recovery of the stolen cash and other items, as well as several additional suspected stolen belongings, including gold watches, jewellery, mobile phones and a television set.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted to the offence and mentioned an accomplice identified only as “Ewonam,” who is currently at large.
The statement added that efforts are underway to track down and arrest the accomplice.
The suspect is expected to be put before the court on Monday, March 16, 2026.
Police say they are working to trace the owners of the other recovered items and have appealed to members of the public who may have lost property under similar circumstances in Spintex, Teshie, Nungua and surrounding areas to contact the CID Headquarters to assist with identification.
