Police have arrested a 49-year-old electrical shop owner for selling self-defence tasers and pepper sprays at Mampong in the Ashanti region.
A total of 77 tasers and 97 pepper sprays have been retrieved from his electrical shop and residence.
There were allegations earlier that the items were meant for a political party which intends to distribute it to its polling agents in the ongoing limited voter registration exercise but police say there's no evidence to that claim.
According to Mampong Police Commander, ACP Owusu Boateng, police had a tip-off that the popular shop owner was trading in self-defence weapons.
ACP Boateng told Luv News that the intended purpose of the items is not immediately known.
But ACP Boateng says the suspect, Kwadwo Afrifa will be brought to the Central Police Headquarters in Kumasi for further investigations.
