Police in Obuasi in the Ashanti region have arrested a 45-year-old man for allegedly having sex and impregnating his 21-year old daughter.
The incestuous act was reported to the Obuasi Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) by the victim after she was beaten by her father, Efo Red.
Commander Togbui Adakpui confirmed the arrest to Adom News Wednesday, a day after the father was arrested.
Adom News’ Isaac Normenyo reports that checks revealed that the suspect has been repeatedly having sex with the 21-year old. It is believed that Red was responsible for her three pregnancies, two of which the victim was forced to abort.
“The victim refused to abort a third pregnancy which she is carrying now and that is why he beat her,” one neighbour said.
It was when the victim refused to abort a third pregnancy that the suspect assaulted his daughter.
The victim’s mother who had lived in Bolgatanga in the Upper East region, the reporeter found, brought her to live with her father who had abandoned them for years.
The mother located Efo Red at Kwapia near Obuasi whwre he was then living with his new wife. Soon after the arrival of the victim, however he divorced his wife.
According to the victim, she phoned her mother to lodge a complaint after her father assaulted her.
The DOVVSU Commander said a docket is being prepared to arraign Efo Red before court.
