Mr. John Gariba Sandow, a former assemblyman of Kpikpira in the Garu-Tempane District allegedly committed suicide after his neighbours taunted him because the NPP candidate for that constituency lost in the Parliamentary Elections.
A source close to the family told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the deceased was a staunch supporter of the NPP and had boasted that he was so sure his candidate would win the election or he would kill himself if the NPP lost in the Garu-Tempane constituency.
"When the NPP lost in both the Parliamentary and Presidential elections in the Garu constituency, his neighbours teased him until he got so angry and took some poison", said the source who pleaded anonymity.
The source described the late Mr. Sandow as a very temperamental person.
Commenting on the incident, Mr. Kpenka Dindiok, the District Chief Executive of Garu-Tempane, who said he was a relative of the deceased, said he was informed that Sandow died after complaining of stomach pains.
The District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) A.N. K. Apkah, said the police had not been informed of a suicide case in the district but that he would investigate to find out the truth.
