An Accra Circuit Court has remanded a 35-year-old man who was captured in a viral video in connection with a phone theft case.
The man is alleged to have stolen an iPhone 14 Pro Max valued at GH¢10,300.
Daniel Koranteng, who denied the charge, was ordered by the Court, presided over by Madam Basilia Adjei-Tawiah, to reappear on December 3, 2025.
His accomplice, identified only as Frank, is on the run.
Police Chief Inspector Daniel Ofori-Appiah told the court that Koranteng, a self-employed businessman, allegedly robbed Madam Mercy Boakye Kwakyewaa, a businesswoman residing at Okpoi-Gonno near Baatsonaa Spintex.
The accused also lived at East Legon Hills.
On October 3, this year, at about 1900 hours, the complainant was walking in the Okpoi-Gonno area to buy airtime when Koranteng and his accomplice approached her in a Toyota Highlander.
They asked for directions to Coastal Estate Junction. After she assisted them, Koranteng allegedly asked her to save his phone number on her iPhone.
While she attempted to do so, the accused reportedly snatched the phone and sped off.
Later, the complainant identified her stolen phone at the Baatsonaa Police Station after watching a viral video that showed Koranteng’s arrest in connection with similar offences.
The video also showed that the accused had been involved in an accident while attempting to escape.
A spot search on his vehicle led to the recovery of three iPhones and a concealed vehicle registration number plate.
The complainant successfully unlocked one of the devices and identified it as her stolen phone.
During investigations, the accused claimed the phone belonged to his friend Frank, said to be based in the United Kingdom, who was in Ghana to sell phones.
However, he failed to provide any documentation or assist the police in locating the said friend.
Koranteng was subsequently arraigned.
