The man at the centre of President Kufuor’s near fatal accident on November 14, 2007, was released by the Motor Court trying him, but re-arrested Thursday December 20, 2007.
The Motor Court in Accra where Mr. Thomas Osei was standing trial under the following charges; dangerous driving, driving under the influence of alcohol and negligently causing harm released him after the prosecution said it was not interested in continuing with the case.
But soon after he stepped outside the court room, he was re-arrested by the police, handcuffed and driven away into custody.
Mr. Osei would be put before an Accra Fast Track High Court on fresh charges Friday December 21, 2007.
At the court Thursday were his wife and some family members who were hoping for his release so he could spend the Christmas holidays with them at home.
His lawyer, Mr. Kwame Akuffo told Joy News that he has always suspected that fresh charges would be proffered against his client and he had made that known to the Motor Court.
He added that, the prosecution intends to make the fresh charges known to him soon.
