The Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Prof. Steven Adei, is proposing compulsory management training for all high office holders to ensure efficiency and effectiveness on the job.
Prof. Adei has for the past week been preparing the Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Mrs. Georgina Wood for her new office, and says it is regrettable that though opportunities are available for skills training, most Ghanaian leaders are unwilling to avail themselves of them.
The training session is organized by the Judicial Training Institute for the Chief Justice.
The GIMPA boss, who spoke with Joy FM’s Elvis Kwashie in an interview, says he's delighted that Justice Wood is going through the management training programme, because it will equip her with the skills for proper management.
He said many high office holders in the sub region usually take advantage of the training programme, unlike many Ghanaians who assume tin-god status immediately they are appointed to key positions.
“This is the practice in many growing countries that we look to, like Canada for Example, where a new person appointed to the office of Chief Justice goes through a set of orientations before, but in our country, as soon as you are named for a position, that same day you assume omniscience.”
Prof. Adei said the Justice Georgina Wood has proved herself ready for the task ahead of her and congratulated President Kufuor for his foresight in nominating her for the post.
