There has been a renewed chieftaincy dispute at Yong Dakpeme Yile in the Northern Region between two rival groups in the area.
The clash is between supporters of Fuseini Chemsi and Mohammed Chemsi over the handing over of a staff of authority ceremony which was supposed to have taken place on Thursday, May 18.
According to an eyewitness, the Mohammed Chemsi side had prepared the symbol of authority to be handed over to him but that was resisted by the rival side resulting in the clash.
The eyewitness said there have been some casualties even though he is unable to give the exact figure.
The residents said the sporadic shooting forced most people to stay indoors for their own safety.
According to the sources, the police last night were in the community to help bring life to normalcy.
Yong Dakpeme Yile has constantly witnessed clashes between these two groups over who is qualified to rule the community.
This has been a subject of contention creating tension in the town.
