In a rare move, Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Kojo Bonsu, has been visiting offices of various political parties to foster unity and solicit ideas for the development of the city. The Mayor has been engaging leaders of the National Democratic Congress(NDC), Convention People’s Party (CPP) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the metropolis, to avoid partisan impediments in efforts to develop area.According to the Mayor, he has embarked on the exercise to get the support of the political parties and to elicit constructive criticism and alternative inputs geared towards restoring Kumasi to its former glory.Luv FM’s Erastus Asare-Donkor reports that the Mayor's move is a first in the history of the Metropolis’ administration.Regional Chairman of the CPP, Yaw Osei, and his NPP counterpart lauded the Mayor's non-partisan approach towards his job but urged him to be fair and firm.According to Asare-Donkor, the Mayor stated that partisan politics should not hinder development.“Politics is becoming a problem in this country. Kumasi also being a stronghold of the NPP, if you are coming to work here as a Mayor, you would have to dialogue with them”, said Kojo Bonsu. In fulfillment of section 243 (1) of the 1992 Constitution and section 20 (1) of the Local Government Act 1993, ACT 462, President John Mahama, in March, nominated the former Goil Managing Director as KMA bosS.He was later confirmed by Members of the Metropolitan Assembly by a majority decision in April.
