Mr Kwasi Oppong-Ababio, Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, has asked individuals and organizations to support government to improve the country’s educational system.
He called for effective public-private partnership for the implementation of government educational interventions.
The MCE was speaking at the inauguration of a fence wall constructed at the cost of GHC 32,191.50 for the Municipal Primary School in Sunyani.
Some Rotary clubs in Canada provided funds for the project, with assistance from Rotary club of Sunyani Central.
The Reverend Timothy Kankam Dwumfour, Sunyani Municipal Director of Education, said the project was to complement government’s support for the school.
He told the school children that “The government is determined to make you responsible citizens through educational interventions, so please study hard and succeed”.
Rev Dwumfour appealed to stakeholders in education to assist children to enable them to perform better in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
He suggested to the Municipal Assembly to assist in organizing mock examinations to prepare candidates for the BECE and said the Municipal Education Directorate would ensure strict supervision of schools.
Mr Samuel Obuor, President of Rotary club of Sunyani Central, noted that the provision of fence wall would enhance teaching and learning.
He said the Rotary Clubs of Canada and their counterpart in Sunyani had so far provided educational items including computers, text books, library books, and health and sanitation equipment worth GHC 65,739 to the school.
The Rotary President said the clubs would build a 12-unit toilet for the school.
