The Managing Director of Labadi Beach Hotel, David Eduaful, has shared the story of his career trajectory in Ghana's hospitality industry and his subsequent rise to top management.
In an interview, he revealed that he was the first Ghanaian to be appointed as a house manager for the premier five-star hotel.
According to him, he was appointed to this role in 2005 and served until 2018.
Speaking on JoyFM’s Personality Profile with Lexis Bill on Thursday, September 26, he said, “I was the first Ghanaian house manager of a five-star hotel in Ghana. It has always been for expatriates. I did that for 17 years. That was the longest position I held in the hotel.”
He said despite his demanding responsibilities as Managing Director, he also managed to pursue his education and work in the sales department.
“It was very tough. The journey has not been that smooth. But with determination and interest and of course, if you love what you do, you will always go far,” he said.
Mr Eduaful also mentioned the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, stating that the hotel temporarily closed for three months.
However, he noted that none of the staff were laid off during this period.
“That was where we realised that people wanted to have a feel of what was in the country. Instead of travelling outside the country, they were now staying in hotels in Ghana. Staycations became one of the saving grace of the hotel. Our business ratings went very high during that period. Ghanaians patronised Labadi Beach Hotel,” he said.
