The Greater Accra Regional Minister Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo has charged the police to investigate allegations that some influential people in society are behind the murder of a seven-year-old girl at the Ashaiman suburb of Athadika.
The girl was reportedly killed on Sunday by a 20-year-old man who allegedly also had sex with her corpse afterwards.
Residents have complained that too many children were being abducted in the area.
One of the residents – Alice, who spoke to Joy News’ Beatrice Adu said about four children have already gone missing in the area.
The minister who is also Member of Parliament (MP) for Kpone Katamaso said the allegations must be looked into.
He however refused to mention the names of the said influential people who are alleged to have been involved in the abductions.
He cautioned parents in the area not to allow their children out of their sight without supervision.
Public Relations Officer of the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Joseph Benefo Darkwa said the case has been transferred from Tema to the Police Headquarters.
He said the poice Homicide Department has begun investigations into the case and the persons involved will be made known.
He tasked residents not to hesitate in informing the police about issues of such nature.
