Water Resources Works and Housing Minister, Collins Dauda is optimistic water delivery in Accra will witness significant improvement when ongoing works at the Kpong water treatment plant is completed on Monday.

The ministry last Thursday shutdown the plant to enable contractors replace obsolete pumps to enhance its capacity to meet the growing demand from consumers in the capital.

The shutdown has led to acute shortage of water in many parts of the capital.

Collins Dauda told Joy News the work is part of government's plan to meet the water demand of Accra.

"We are pumping water from the old system that will give us the 40 million gallons of water but this one will add on 12.3 million gallons of water upon completion so we will have 56 million gallons of water from that plant," the Minister said.

The population of Accra, he noted, "has over grown the capacity of these pumps so we took a loan to replace these pumps at Kpong. Now the replacement of the pumps will go with the replacement of new pipes."

"We want to  complete the project in June this year," Collins Dauda added.
