The Eastern Regional Minister Antwi Boasiako Sekyere has ordered police re-enforcement to Akooko a day after bloody protest left two dead and four others injured.
The violence followed a demonstration embarked on yesterday by some residents to register their displeasure at the presence of a fetish priest in the area.
The people claimed the fetish priest, Nana Saka, has been engaging in money rituals popularly known as Sakawa and has been sacrificing human beings for the rituals.
The residents wanted the fetish priest out of the vicinity and allegedly went to burn his shrine but persons said to be owing allegiance to Nana Saka retaliated in a brutal manner shooting and killing two of them.
Incensed by the action some of the residents proceeded to burn the house and other properties of the fetish priest.
The police was called to restore calm and arrest the perpetrators. The Eastern Region Minister Antwi Boasiako Sekyere paid a visit to the place and directed police reinforcement.
The police have so far arrested fifteen people in connection with the violence.
Joy News correspondent Haruna Yusif reported the minister as saying that the police are not in to intimidate the residents but rather to work with them to maintain law and order.
The minister also advised the residents to cooperate with the police and volunteer information that will lead to the arrest of all the perpetrators.
Meanwhile, the residents insist the fetish priest must leave the area.
