The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has stated that the minority caucus in Parliament is not only ready but eager to cooperate with the majority side to ensure the swift formation of President Mahama’s government.
In an interview with Joy News, Nana Awuah emphasised that the minority is committed to putting aside political differences to help the president begin implementing his policies for the benefit of the country.
Explaining the parliamentary procedures, Mr Awuah highlighted the importance of establishing sector committees before the presidential vetting process can proceed.
These committees play a vital role in ensuring the smooth vetting of presidential nominees. However, he acknowledged that the process of forming these committees along with the required publication notices—could take up to two weeks, a factor that could delay the vetting and the overall government formation.
Despite these procedural challenges, Mr Awuah was resolute in his belief that the minority caucus is ready to work hand-in-hand with the majority to overcome any obstacles.
He pointed out that Parliament, as the master of its own rules, has the flexibility to adjust its procedures to meet the urgency of the situation. This would ensure that the president’s eagerness to begin his work isn’t hindered by bureaucratic delays.
In a passionate appeal for national unity, Mr Awuah urged the Majority caucus to embrace the opportunity for collaboration.
He called on both sides to prioritise the country’s needs above political differences, stressing that it is only through cooperation that the government can be swiftly formed, allowing President Mahama to begin fulfilling his mandate without unnecessary setbacks.
“This is a time for action, not division,” Mr Awuah remarked, underlining the urgency of getting the government up and running. “The nation’s expectations are high, and we cannot afford delays. It’s time for us all to work together for the greater good of the people.”
