The two radio panellists cited for inciting hatred against, and threatening to kill, justices of the Supreme Court (SC) on Accra-based Montie FM are due to appear before the court today, Tuesday, July 12.

Godwin Ako Gunn and Alistair Nelson will join the host of Montie FM’s Pampaso programme, Salifu Maase known as Mugabe and owner of the station to answer contempt charges.

Many were shocked when Ako Gunn and Alistair contributing to a radio discussion on a current affairs programme on Montie FM said they would eliminate justices of the Supreme Court if their ruling on the electoral roll case does not favour the Electroal Commission (EC).

They claimed they knew where some of the judges lived and that if the judges gave a judgment that would create security problems in the country, the judges would be first to suffer. The judges were hearing a case brought by two politicians - Abu Ramadan and Evans Nimako - challenging the sanctity of the voters' register.

The Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) was later to say the two have no capacity to undertake the action they threatened.

This was received with mixed feelings considering the comment was made at a time the nation was marking the 34th Anniversary of the gruesome murder three High Court judges by some operatives of the erstwhile Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC).

The government has promised to protect the lives of the Supreme Court judges, but many say that is not enough.

They want the two dealt with to serve as a deterrent to others as the nation heads to the November 2016 polls.

Some legal practitioners have predicted a jail sentence for the two especially if they are found guilty of the charge of criminal contempt.

The meeting at the Supreme Court will consider imposing a prison term on the two over their comments.

But lawyer for the accused, Chris Ackomey has entreated the court to give his clients fair hearing.

He still insists one of the accused; Godwin Ako Gunn was not on the show as was claimed.

He, however, said his clients are prepared for any eventuality.
