A philosopher walked around a room while teaching her students. As she raised a glass of water, everyone expected they’d be asked the “half empty or half full” question.
Instead, with a smile on her face, she inquired:”How heavy is this glass of water?” Answers called out ranged from 200g to 500g.
She replied, “The absolute weight doesn’t matter. It depends on how long I hold it. If I hold it for a minute, it’s not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I’ll have an ache in my arm. If I hold it for a day, my arm will feel numb and paralyzed.
In each case, the weight of the glass doesn’t change, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes.”
The stresses of life are like the glass of water. Hold on to them in your mind for a while and nothing happens. Hold on to them a bit longer and they begin to hurt and if you hold on to them all day long, you will feel incapable of doing anything.
Life’s stresses will come in may forms, bad relationships, people scheming against you, challenges to meet financial obligations, momentary failure and negative habits but the length of time you spend carrying them around or holding on to them will only hurt you.
Life my dear friends is an upward journey. Our stresses only make the journey more challenging when we carry them along for too long. Your stresses must be examined on arrival, mined for the lessons, jettisoned and the journey continued.
Examine your relationships, habits and challenges do they bring with them anything you could use to further your upward journey? It is important to let-go your stresses as early in the evening as you can.
Carrying them into the night only makes the next day more difficult. Any upward journey is much easier if you travel light.
If the wild lilies of the field do have a hand in how they blossom how much more you who was created and endowed with greatness.
Do you have a problem, if yes, can you fix? If no, then why worry? Do you have a problem? If no, then why worry?
Remember to put your glass down!
