Movie retailers at Opera Square in Accra are up in arms against film producers for increasing the price on their movies (Compact Disks).
The decision to increase the price of the movies by 10 Ghana peswas, was taken at a meeting by film producers, marketers and distributors Friday in Accra, as a cost cutting measure for the producers who said their production cost has gone up.
According to a source who was at the meeting, the CD producers who used to offer them on credit have now implemented a cash and carry policy which they say was not favourable to them - the producers.
The producers also lamented that the cost of producing movies in general has also increased. “The cost of paying actors and actresses has increased; even the price of pure water has increased,” the source cried out.
The source told Myjoyonline.com Monday that the retailers are angry that the decision was taken without their consent and that, the timing was also bad.
The retailers are therefore calling for a meeting on the increment and possibly a change in the implementation date to next year.
They argued that their profit margins on the movies are not high and any increment will rather worsen their plight, and have therefore called on the producers to retain the old prices.
Information on the increment disrupted business activities Monday at Opera Square which is the hub of movie retails in the country.
Friday’s meeting by FIPAG also discussed an anti-piracy operation strategy that will see the introduction of anti-piracy stickers to help curb piracy.
