Odododiodoo MP, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye has criticised the Gender Minister for her silence on the Attack on an Adom FM reporter by a member of her party.

The legislator says Otiko Djaba should have condemned the assault on a woman who was doing her job by a fellow woman.

“I blame the minister for Gender. When this Moesha issue came…she issued a statement to condemn her but she doesn’t have the courage to issue a statement to condemn Hajia Fati for attacking another lady who was doing her work,” he said.

Mr Vanderpuye also condemned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for their silence on the assault which was carried out by their supporter at the Party’s headquarters.

“It has been more than 72-hours since the incident and they haven’t said anything,” Vanderpuye said.

Hajia Fati slapped Adom FM's Ohemaa Sakyiwaa on Friday at the NPP headquarters because the journalist took shots of her without her permission.

According to her the one she slapped did not resemble a journalist but rather looked like an “onion seller”.

The journalist, Ohemaa Sakyiwaa Ahwenepa, was at the NPP headquarters to cover a story after news broke that there was some scuffle at the place following attempts by suspended national Vice Chairman of the party to pick up nomination forms to contest for the Chairmanship position in the party's upcoming elections.

But while carrying out her duties Ms Ahwenepa was added to the tall list of journalists that have come under attack while on duty.

Mr Vanderpuye believes the NPP should have condemned the act by now.

Manso Nkwata MP, Joseph Albert Quarm who was also on the AM Show argued that Hajia Fati was acting in her individual capacity and not as a party representative.

“She does not speak for the party and she is not part of the national executive of the party,” he argued.

Mr Vanderpuye who is a member of the Ghana Journalists Association, however, maintained that considering the numerous attacks on journalists, should the governing NPP fail to officially condemn the attack, he will lobby GJA to blacklist the party.

The leadership of GJA has condemned the attack and have hinted of legal action against the known rowdy woman.

Meanwhile, the police have still not come out with any report on the attack on Joy News reporter Latif Iddrisu who was beaten up by policemen at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters while on duty in March this year.
