The MP for Afram Plains North, Emmanuel Aboagye Didieye has been referred to Parliament’s Privileges Committee for suggesting that 80 percent of his colleagues are womanizers.
Mr. Didieye made the statement on Adom FM Friday morning during a discussion on the salary of teachers.
The MP is reported to have said that teachers are drunkards, a comment that infuriated some teachers who called into the programme to vent their spleen on him.
Moments after making those comments, his colleagues from both sides of the political divide accosted him in parliament to register their displeasure at the comment.
The MP himself was whisked away by members from the Majority side and was not available to explain his story.
Mr. Avoka, in an attempt to cool down tempers said the matter should be referred to the Privileges Committee, the appropriate body to handle such an issue.
He appealed for calm maintaining the leadership of the House will ask for the recording, examine the context in which the comments were made and ask Mr Didieye for explanation.
Mr. Avoka, who is also the MP for Zebilla indicated that "this is not to defend anybody, but I just want us to trace the source and we can [refer it to the] committee."
Minority MP Dominic Nitiwul promised to avail to the House a tape recording of Mr. Didieye's submission on the radio discussion.
Parliamentary correspondent, Sammy Darko told Joy News the MPs on both side of the House were livid with the comments and expressed disgust at their colleague's unguarded statement.
