The Muslim Health Workers Association of Ghana in Collaboration with the Muslim students of Presbyterian University College has embarked on a health screening exercise in Asante Akyem Agogo.
The Asante Akim Campus students undertook the exercise to mark this year's World Health Day.
The exercise also aimed at sensitising the community on sanitation, their right to demand quality health care as well as for the residents to adopt good health-seeking behaviour.
As the world celebrates good health care for all, medical staffs of various hospitals and institutions on the World Health Day, use the day to extend their services to mostly less deprived people.
The overriding objective of the World Health Organisation (WHO) is health for all.
Everyone has a right to health irrespective of whether they can afford it or not hence the theme: Universal Health Coverage for Everyone Everywhere.
Universal health coverage provides a strategy for individuals to get essential health care services, which improves wellbeing and life expectancies, alleviates poverty and hunger, protects countries from epidemics amongst others.
Two hundred individuals were screened for diabetes, hypertension, obesity, hepatitis, malaria and treated for common ailments to mark the day.
The President of Muslim Health Workers Association of Ghana Dr Aisha Isaka commended the Zongo community for coming in their numbers to be screened.
She also advised them on the importance of periodic medical checkup and the adverse effect of self-medication.
The chief of the Zongo community Alhaji Abdul Rahim Suleiman commended the joint team for executing such exercise in His community and also enlighten them on some importance of good sanitation and how to prevent some disease.
He assured the team they are going to practice good sanitation hence fort and proper waste disposal.
The President of the Muslim students of Presbyterian University College, Mohammed Shamuna, on behalf of the students, expressed sincere gratitude to the Zongo Chief.
They also thanked the Zongo community and also assured them they will periodically visit the community to sensitize the residents on health related information.
