Hunting in the dry season is becoming more costly in the Techiman municipality, authorities say.
Fires triggered by hunters are responsible for the destruction of several acres of farmland every dry season, officials have said.
To this end, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has urged hunters to desist from pursuing their business during the season.
Mr. Evans Osei-Worae, a local coordinator of NADMO, cautioned the youth in Techiman against group hunting during the dry season.
He said the district's anti-bushfire task force would be alert to
thwart such activities and apprehend such persons and ensure they face the full rigours of the law.
Mr. Osei-Worae told the Ghana News Agency that some youth in Techiman
moved in cargo trucks to embark on hunting in some communities in Nkoranza District.
He appealed to assembly members, unit committees and traditional
authorities to be vigilant and to report the activities of group hunters to the task force.
The coordinator advised fire volunteers to also monitor farmers, palm wine tapers
and honey extractors to avoid the occurrence of bushfires so save the
environment and people's properties from destruction.
Mr. Osei-Worae stressed the need for law enforcing agencies to support
the assembly to bring the annual bushfire menace in the area under control by dealing drastically with fire setters.
