The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has declared a nationwide strike with effect from Wednesday, March 9. According to the National Vice President of NAGRAT, Mr. Angel Carbonu, the decision was reached after an emergency meeting on Tuesday. The teachers seem adamant after assurances from President Mills and the Education Ministry to correct the anomalies in their salaries following their migration on to the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS. On Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen programme, Tuesday, Mr. Carbonu noted that they have asked all their members nationwide to withdraw their services indefinitely. He added that all NAGRAT members are therefore expected to stay away from the classrooms until further notice. Mr. Carbonu however revealed that they will only rescind their decision if the outcome of the meeting between the Ministries of Education and Finance is favorable and satisfactory to them. Meanwhile, the Ministries of Education and Finance have been in a crunch meeting to resolve the discrepancies in the salaries of the teachers. Dominic Nitiwul, MP for Bimbilla and a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) blamed the government for hyping the SSSS when the police was migrated thereby raising the expectations of the teachers. He urged the government to resolve the issue properly to prevent any escalation.
