The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) is threatening strikes to protest what it says is government’s failure to respond to the plight of teachers. NAGRAT says from next week, its members will wear red bands, and follow this up with a strike if government fails to act. Zack Ohemeng Tawiah of Nhyira FM has the rest of the story. The Ashanti Regional chairman of the association Daniel Boamah told Joy mentions particularly government’s delays in concluding salary negotiations with teachers. He warns the association would no longer tolerate further delays in the process which has he said has already brought suffering to members. “The little things that we were enjoying is even taken away from us,” he emphasized, citing particularly that government has slashed to GH¢8 from GH¢40 their car maintenance allowances. He said although prices are soaring due to high inflation brought on by the credit squeeze, government is failing to increase their salaries. Mr Boamah said members of the association are set to hit the street if government does not address their concerns. NAGRAT warns its members would meet Friday to deliberate on the issue and advice themselves accordingly. Source: Myjoyonline.com
