The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) is threatening to go on strike on Monday to press home demands for payment of service allowance.
According to the chairman of the association, Christine Addae Poku, members have not been paid their responsibility and car maintenance allowance since January last year, a situation which has made life difficult for them.
He also accuses the Ghana Education Service of showing little or no commitment in responding to their grievances.
Mr Opoku said they have notified the Labour Commission of their decision to embark on strike.
According to him, the association met the education minister and the director general on December 25, last year, during which it was agreed that the arrears would be paid on the 31st of January, 2010.
“As at now, we have not heard anything,” he lamented.
He said the national officers have already taken a decision to lay down their tools and are awaiting endorsement from the national executives by Friday after which all their constituents will be duly informed.
Meanwhile, sources at the GES say officials are making every effort to resolve the grievances and to prevent the strike from taking place at all.
