The New Patriotic Party Presidential Candidate Nana Akufo Addo in a defiant mood has repeated his controversial “all-die-be-die” comment.
He was lampooned by opponents and officials of the ruling party accusing him of beating war drums and inciting party supporters into violence.
The National Democratic Congress has demanded an unqualified apology from Nana Addo for asking his supporters to resist any form of intimidation even to the point of death.
Instead of an apology, the NPP flag bearer has perhaps in the most flamboyant manner repeated the most controversial all-die-be-die comment.
This time it was with the chants and approval of leading members of the party and prospective Members of Parliament in the Greater Accra Region, who had gathered to confer on a peaceful organisation of the party's parliamentary primaries.
The flag bearer noted the NPP has for years been at the fore-front of fighting for democracy in Ghana.
He chronicled the efforts of JB Danquah, Attor Quarshie, Ako Adjei-persons he described as bold and courageous founders of the party who laid their lives to ensure that democracy thrived in the country.
He said given the violent nature three bye elections- Atiwa, Akwatia, Chereponi have been organized under President John Mills, it is clear that the NDC will not be fair and has plans to use violence in the 2012 elections.
Nana Addo said if it is the will of Ghanaians for the NPP to return to power the NPP will not be cheated in the 2012 election.
He said if the use cudgels, knifes and guns are part of the plan of the NDC in executing election 2012, they should think again because "the cry of the NPP in the 2012 elections is all-die-be-die."
But the deputy Chief of Staff Alex Segbefia told Joy News the unrepentant behavior of Nana Addo must be a "source of concern" to all well meaning Ghanaians.
He said for the NPP leader to charge his party supporters into believing that the upcoming election must be won at all cost even to the point of death is a “frightening state of affairs.”
He dismissed assertions that his party chairman’s ‘killing the cat’ comment is comparable to the statement made by Nana Addo.
Whilst describing Kwabena Adjei’s “there are so many ways of killing the cat" comment against the judiciary as a pun used in ordinary English language, he said Nana Addo’s comments are unfortunate.
He said if Nana Addo will not apologise for the comments, he should refrain from repeating it.
