After a six-month sojourn in the United King­dom to cool off - following a heated legal tussle over who really won the 2012 presidential election - the 2012 presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo, is on his way back to Ghana.

DAILY GUIDE says it is reli­ably informed that Nana Akufo-Addo will finally return to Ghana on a British Airways flight in the early hours of Thursday March 6.

Sources said there is a plan for a welcome recep­tion at the airport, but an aide to the NPP chieftain has, however, pleaded with the general public not to mass up at the Kotoka Inter­national Airport to meet the man who is likely to lead the NPP again in 2016.

"Nana is very uneasy about that prospect. He is very touched about all the excitement relative to his return home, but he is pleading with his support­ers to stay away from the airport. He has, however, said that all well-wishers who wish to welcome him back home are free to come to his residence, near the Nima Police Station, that afternoon. He will be happy to receive them there," according to the aide.

Previous arrangements of his return to the country had been called off, but this time around, all is set for his arrival.

Thursday March 6 is Independence Day; a public holiday in Ghana.

Future In Politics

Nana Akufo-Addo is billed to deliver a public lec­ture as the main speaker for an event to be organized by the prestigious Royal African Society to mark 57 years after Ghana's inde­pendence in 1957, in Lon­don Monday evening.

The 2012 presidential candidate of the NPP is expected to deliver a speech and give hints on his own future in politics.

Since he left the country after the election petition at the Supreme Court chal­lenging the legitimacy of John Mahama as president, Nana Akufo-Addo has not spoken at any major public event.

President's Team

On Saturday night, a high-powered ministerial delegation left Accra on board a British Airways flight for London.

President Mahama has sent his for­eign minister and most trusted political ally in the governing party, Hannah Tetteh, to face Nana Addo as the second main speaker.

Sources say the organis­ers had initially invited Ghana's High Commission­er to the UK, Professor Kwaku Danso-Boafo, a cousin of Nana Addo, as a second speaker, but he was dropped for Hannah Tetteh.

Ms Tetteh is not going alone. According to sources at Ghana's High Commission in London, her delega­tion includes Finance Minis­ter Seth Terkper; Minister of Communications Dr Edward Omane Boamah and Deputy Information Minister Felix Ofosu Kwakye.

When DAILY GUIDE checked on the website of the Royal African Society for programme updates last week, the tickets to the free event at the Brunei Suite, SOAS, University of Lon­don, were already oversub­scribed.

Chairman for the event is Lord Boateng. Other speakers are Dr Michael Amoah, Research Associate, Centre of African Studies and Manji Cheto, Ana­lyst/Vice President, Teneo Holdings.
