The Executive Director of the Danquah Institute has described the recently launched National Youth Policy as a useless document.
The policy was launched by the Mills administration in August to provide a blueprint for the empowerment of the country’s youth.
But Gabby Otchere–Darko says the youth policy is only duplicating constitutional provisions successive governments have failed to adhere to.
He was speaking at the SRC week celebration of the University Of Cape Coast.
“What really is the National Youth?, he asked and proceeded to answer, “it is an excuse for doing nothing.”
In his opinion, what the youth need are good education, skills and jobs – things the youth policy on its own cannot provide.
Gabby Otchere Darko is also suggesting the scrapping of Republic Day, July 1 as a public holiday.
“I don’t see why we should celebrate the 1st of July as a Republic Day because the First Republic is dead. If we have to celebrate Republic Day, then let’s celebrate the 7th of January 1993,” he stated.
