Politicians and Civil Society Organizations were on Friday asked to allow people in the communities in which they operate to participate in the decision making process.
Mr. Bibariwiah Mike Fuoh, Upper East Regional Director of National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), made the call at a sensitization forum on Social Auditing for members of District Assemblies, Unit Committees, traditional rulers and public officials in Misiga in the Bawku Municipality in the Upper East Region.
The objective of the forum was to update the knowledge and skills of participants so that they could act as social auditors to hold people in authority accountable at the local level.
Mr Fuoh explained that social auditing was basically a monitoring process that provided citizens the opportunity to hold people in authority and service providers at the local level accountable.
He explained that it was crucial for communities to participate in the decision-making process, especially with regards to the planning and execution of projects in their communities since they were the direct beneficiaries.
Mr Fuoh urged communities to ensure that service providers properly executed projects in their areas.
He urged the people to support politicians and civil society organizations towards the development of their areas.
Mr Fuoh asked the people to honour their tax obligations promptly to enable the assemblies generate more funds for the development.
