The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is confident it would axe the New Patriotic Party (NPP) out of power in the December 7 general elections.

According to the Volta Regional Secretary of the NDC, James Gunu, the opposition party is committed to it's ’Rescue Mission’, irrespective of the ploy and agenda by Akufo-Addo-led government to suppress votes in their strongholds.

Addressing a press conference in Ho, he expressed optimism that the NDC would increase it's voting pattern from 80% in 2016 to 98% in the Volta Region, and as well maintain all 18 parliamentary seats in the region.

”For those who may have lost appetite for political power, the mindless pillage of our national resources by the most corrupt and inept NPP government should tickle and re-energise you to join the ‘Rescue Mission’.

"We also want to reassure you that we are going to retain all the 18 parliamentary seats in the Volta Region and garner 98% of the presidential votes for John and Jane”, he said.

He, therefore, implored party faithful to intensify campaign activities to ensure the message of the NDC touches base with the grassroots and warned that comrades who would be found advocating for ’skirt and blouse’ votes would be sanctioned.

He further indicated that ”countless stories of our people being physically attacked, prevented and humiliated, in their quest to exercise a simple civil responsibility as citizens abound.

"For the first time in the history of Ghana, our nationality as a people have been challenged by the government of the NPP and the man who should be the symbol of the State - President Akufo Addo, the self-acclaimed ‘human rights activist’.”

Mr. Gunu also alleged that the NDC picked intelligence the governing NPP and the Electoral Commission have connived and planning a scheme to prevent faithful of the umbrella fraternity from exercising their constitutional rights in the upcoming general elections.

He outlined the mounting of roadblocks, sporadic shootings at polling stations, deployments of helicopters, drones and national security officials, planting of people at polling stations to frustrated voters and deletion of names of people of the Volta Region ”as part of the grand scheme to suppress our votes”.

”It is just not enough to have your name on the register you must come out in your numbers and vote for John and Jane.

"Again, we want to reiterate that the compilation of the new voters register is meaningless and unworthy, unless it is linked to the total liberation of Voltarians and Ghanaians”, he concluded.
