Constituency executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have threatened to take matters into their own hands if the National Executives of the party does not do something about the growing lawlessness in the party.
According to the executives, the National Executives seem to be looking on unconcerned while some members run riot and do whatever they want.
Speaking on Adom FM's Dwaso Nsem on Monday about the posters being put up all over the country to campaign for former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings as President for 2012, the Vice Chairperson for the Manhyia Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Madam Joana Dufie accused the national executives of the party for allowing people to flout the constitution of the party.
She said the NDC Constitution has clearly spelt out the timetable for elections and when nominations would be open so she does not understand why the national executives have allowed the supporters of Nana Konadu to start campaigning.
Madam Dufie expressed surprise at the attitude of the executives, especially General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah for keeping silent all this time while other members of the party become so anxious about the recent developments. She called on executives to take action now because the NDC is digging its own grave, adding "it is not the NPP which will boot us out of power, it will be NDC that will take itself out of power."
She also talked about her disappointment in Deputy General Secretary, Kofi Adams saying "we are the very ones who voted for Kofi Adams but we are sad to say that we just don't get him when he speaks; it is as if he tries to anger(annoy) people."
She said she is saddened at the attitude of the foot soldiers. She advised them to use the appropriate channels in making demands on the government.
She also pleaded with the foot soldiers to be patient and wait till 2012 when they can campaign for the former first lady and convince people as to why they should vote for her.
The Propaganda Secretary of the Asawase Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Yakubu Tony Aidoo, on his part expressed concern at the attitude of the national executives towards the foot soldiers championing the Konadu for 2012 campaign.
According to Yakubu while they are always defending the government and the party everywhere, the national executives look on as members bring divisions in the party.
He said the NDC has a strong chance of winning the 2012 elections only if the executives do their work well: "we have toiled so hard to bring this party to party and they are disgracing us with their attitude. Look at all the good things that President Mills is doing for this country and yet, this whole Konadu for 2012, Atta Mills for 2012 business will collapse us. Why do they want to give us hypertension?"
He said if the national executives do not care about the party, then they should stand aside.
He warned that he had given the national executives only a week to find solutions to the matter otherwise he would lead all the NDC youth in Asawase to lock up the regional offices of the NDC.
In a related development, the Chairman for the Mfantseman West branch of the NDC, Mr. Stephen Moore has told Adom News that Nana Konadu will disgrace herself if she contests for the flagbearer position of the party. Mr Moore believes the rank and file of the NDC will reject Nana Konadu if she contests for the position.
Mr. Stephen Moore said they voted for Mrs. Rawlings as the first Vice Chairman of the party because they did not want to disgrace the former first family and asked her to stop criticizing and taunting Professor Mills' government because the party members allowed her family to reign peacefully when they were in power.
