The governing National Democratic Congress would go to congress on 24th October to elect new National Executives.
The congress would run from 24th to 26th October at a yet to be decided venue.
The decision was taken at the party’s National Executive Committee meeting in Accra on Thursday, which was attended by President John Mahama.
General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia told Joy News’ Joseph Opoku Gakpo after the meeting that the party is hopeful it would have completed the biometric registration of all its members across the country by October.
He says the meeting also approved a guideline for the conduct of the campaigning leading up the national congress.
The guideline bars government appointees from contesting for the various positions, unless they resign.
The committee also approved the filing fees for contestants to various positions. Contestants for the chairmanship position would pay 5000 cedis while that of General Secretary would pay 4000.
The party set 19th July as the deadline by which all branch elections should have been completed. Constituency executive elections would be held on 31st August, with the regional executive elections coming off on 5th October.
October 19 has also been fixed for the National Youth and Women's Wing congresses, with the National Delegates Congress coming off from 24-26 October.
MP for Keta Constituency, Richard Quarshigah told Joy News though the New Patriotic Party has gone ahead of them in holding a congress to elect National Executives and has begun planning for flagbearer elections, the NDC is not perturbed.
