The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has unveiled a comprehensive roadmap of the party for its 2026 internal elections, calling on all members to remain disciplined and ensure their membership dues are paid up to enable them fully participate in the process.
Speaking during a press conference at the party headquarters in Accra on January 29, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, emphasised that strong organisational structures and financial discipline are central to the party’s growth and effectiveness.
“These two levels constitute the very foundation upon which the strength and growth of the party is established. We cannot afford to get that wrong,” he said.
He said membership dues are crucial for members to remain in good standing and actively participate in all electoral activities.
“The modalities for the payment of membership dues are essential, particularly for members who wish to participate fully in the internal elections. I urge everyone to take this seriously,” Kwetey added.
The roadmap, approved by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) in December 2025, lays out all activities, timelines, responsibilities, and supervisory structures. According to Mr. Kwetey, the first phase involves the return of registers and books from branches to the national level.
“This is a very critical assignment from the branches going all the way to the national level. Registers will be returned to the branches between January 30 and February 10. Regional and constituency secretaries will be responsible for this activity, supervised by the national, regional, and constituency executive committees,” he explained.
The second activity covers the registration of new members and updates to the party register, scheduled from February 10 to March 30.
“This is an important opportunity for young people who have just become eligible to vote, as well as older members who want to formally identify with the party. Branch executives will handle the registration process, with supervision by the national, regional, and constituency executive committees,” Kwetey said.
The third stage, the authentication of registers, will run from April 2 to April 30, ensuring that all branch registers are accurate and verifiable. Constituency executives will manage the process, under supervision from the national, regional, and constituency committees.
“Supervision is happening at every level because this is critical. The national and regional executives are closely monitoring these processes to ensure everything aligns with party rules,” he stated.
The roadmap also includes the picking of branch nomination forms between April 10 and 16, allowing interested individuals to run for branch positions. Constituency executives will handle the process, supervised by regional executives to prevent undue interference.
“We want to ensure that no one is blocked from participating due to vested interests. This is about transparency and fairness,” Kwetey stressed.
Vetting and appeals at branch elections are scheduled from May 20 to June 30, with responsibility resting on constituency executives and supervision by all levels of the executive committees. Finally, the validation of elected branch executives will take place from July 10 to July 30.
“This final stage ensures that all branch election results are authentic and properly validated. Discipline, transparency, and adherence to procedure are essential at every step,” he added.
Mr Kwetey urged all members to stay engaged, follow timelines, and commit to the process, saying, “Every member has a role to play in ensuring the success of our internal elections. This roadmap is designed to uphold transparency, fairness, and the democratic values of the NDC.”
