More than 50 aggrieved youth activists of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Adentan Constituency of the Greater Accra Region on Monday protested against the rejection of Alhaji Baba Zacharia as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area.
The party's popular choice, according to sources, was said not to be well educated, hence the bypassing of Baba Zakaria.
They marched to the party's office carrying a banner with the inscription, "Monkey No Go Work For Baboon To Chop Again" and threatened to close down the party's office until their wish was granted by the party's leaders.
The protest was sponsored by a group calling itself 'NDC Kingmakers of Adentan'.
They said Baba Zacharia was their choice, as he "is a highly respected member of the constituency".
A spokesperson for the group, Franklin Donkor, told DAILY GUIDE that "the time has come for the Adentan Constituency to rule itself rather than have people from other constituencies tell our story for us."
He warned that any further attempt by what they referred to as 'big fishes' to interfere in their affairs would only spell doom for the party, adding, "They know what the consequences will be for them."
Mr Donkor appealed to President John Mahama to intervene as a matter of urgency, by nominating their choice of MCE for the constituency.
The Assembly had rejected two nominees, both women, for the Municipal Chief Executive position.
The outgoing MCE, Ms Kakra Vanlare, was rejected on two occasions, and her replacement, Gifty Emefa Sika Nartey, was also thrown out, with the Assembly members calling for a fresh face.
Mrs Sika Nartey, 44, an Administrator at the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC), secured less than two-thirds of the votes.
