The flagbearer of the Progressive People’s Party Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom has chided President Mills for his continued silence on the raging conflicts across the country.
Dr. Nduom told Joy News the numerous conflicts are a source of worry that should necessarily compel the President to speak out strongly against the perpetrators of the violence.
The PPP leader believes this would ensure the many warring actors do not further stoke the flames of chieftaincy disputes, communal rifts and ethnic conflicts.
“All over the world, you have leaders who show practical leadership, active leadership and what I mean by that is that these are leaders who don’t just show concern but demonstrate it. Where there is conflict, where there are problems, where people are in danger, where lives have been lost or lives have been put in harm’s way, leaders go to where the difficulties are to soothe people’s fears, and to calm their nerves,” he stated.
In the past few weeks, violence have hit parts of the country with their attendant loss of lives and property. Parts of the Upper East Region, Nakpandui in the Northern Region, Ekumfi Narkwah in the Central Region and only yesterday, Hohoe in the Volta Region have recorded violence with ethnic undertones.
The president is yet to make a comment on these happenings, a situation Dr Nduom believes is disappointing and worrying.
He said the alibi that the president was allowing the security agencies to do their work was baseless.
“The security agencies take directions from the Commander-In-Chief; it is the actions of the Commander-In-Chief that matter,” he told Joy News’ Araba Koomson.
