The Krontihene of Akyem Asoum, Nana Boadi Amponim Abodade III, has stated emphatically that Ghanaian chiefs will not tolerate another president like Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
In an interview on GHOne TV, he criticised the outgoing president’s treatment of traditional rulers, labelling it a poor legacy for the presidency.
“A good friend of mine, who is also a chief, told me once, ‘Let’s see if he will come around and instruct chiefs to stand up to greet him.’ It’s not a good legacy,” Nana Boadi revealed, referencing instances where chiefs were allegedly compelled to show undue reverence to President Akufo-Addo.
Nana Boadi’s remarks come at a time when traditional leaders and citizens alike are assessing the outgoing administration’s legacy and its impact on the nation’s cultural and social development.
The Krontihene expressed disappointment in the president’s inability to foster goodwill and respect between his administration and the chieftaincy institution.
“He could have done more,” Nana Boadi remarked, lamenting what he saw as squandered opportunities and a failure to strengthen Ghana’s traditional governance structures.
He further urged Ghanaians to reflect deeply on the leadership qualities required for future presidents, saying, “We pray we don’t get another Akufo-Addo to be president of Ghana.”
