Cabinet has given approval for the purchase of new fire tenders to augment the old ones in the system.
It has therefore tasked the Ministry of Interior to source funds to buy more fire tenders for the service.
The Chief Fire Officer, Mr Felix Ferkah told the GNA at Tarkwa that when processes are completed successfully in 2008, the purchase would be the biggest haul ever to be provided for the Service.
CFO Ferkah is on a three-day familiarization tour of the Western region which would offer him the opportunity to identify some of the problems Fire Service Personnel are encountering and how to help solve some of them.
At Tarkwa, he inspected old Fire Stations which were in bad state and as a result have been relocated.
He said some of the biggest problems that the Service is facing are both residential and office accommodation.
CFO Ferkah said his outfit, in collaboration with the Wassa West District Assembly would pull down the old office and build another. He said the assurance of the Wassa West District Chief Executive is an indication of a good co-operation between the Assembly and the Fire Service.
The Chief Fire Officer would meet personnel of the service at Tarkwa, Prestea and Asankragwa.
Mr. Emmanuel Kwesi Ayensu, Wassa West District Chief Executive gave an assurance that the Assembly would assist in putting up a new office complex for the fire service in the District.
