The New York University (NYU), Accra will on Thursday, October 15, 2020 host a masterclass in honour and celebration of legendary writer, Professor Ama Ata Aidoo.
Themed ‘Eight Decades of Excellence’, the interactive session will have the renowned playwright join hands with the general public in a rare conversation on e-platforms via livestream to commemorate her eighth decade of brilliant advocacy.
NYU Accra, in a statement signed by the Community Engagement Coordinator, Gifty Affre, announces that the program forms “part of its vision to embrace an urban identity, be an innovator in higher education and promote global vision” through the introduction of a ‘Labone
Dialogues’ series.
“This dialogue series forms part of NYU Accra’s community engagement initiatives geared towards engaging and celebrating diverse works that have put Ghana on the global map” it explained.
Launched in February this year, the ‘Labone Dialogue’ seeks to assemble Ghanaian revolutionists to aid develop functional capacities in the engagement of strategic policy processes.
“Through this dialogue series, we seek to bring to the fore, promising personalities; jog our memories on trailblazers and icons and bring such great personalities within public reach. Our community events emphasize the need for local production of knowledge to be a keepsake.
"It is pivotal that we cherish, celebrate and promote our own. We need to compose our own memoirs and write our own stories as Ghanaians” the statement reads.
To this, the October 15 masterclass will delve into Prof. Aidoo’s extraordinary career which is one that has used literature to lift up the entire African continent.
