A Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), ADANU has launched its 20thanniversary celebrations in Ho with institutions commending the organization for its tremendous efforts at helping the less privileged in society and making education accessible for all.
ADANU works alongside rural, underdeveloped Ghanaian communities to create and establish sustainable solutions for education, and equal opportunities for all people regardless of gender, age or economic status.
The Volta Regional Director of Social Welfare Department, Stella Mawutor commended the organization for community empowerment through education and other social interventions.
Mrs. Stella Mawutor noted that, many organisations could not stand the storm hence folded up after a few years of operating in the region unlike ADANU which has been strong and consistent at what they do.
She urged ADANU to keep up the good work and reach other communities in the country, especially the Volta Region where the organisation started.
In a speech read on behalf of the Volta Regional Director of Education by the Director of Higher Institution, Doris Abayavor, she commended the organisation for transforming the lives of the less privileged in society.
She noted that Volta Regional Education Directorate has recognised the immense contribution of ADANU over the years and urged them to do even more and continue to be a shining example for other organisations in the same field.
She noted that, through the many social interventions initiatives by ADANU, the lives of vulnerable people, especially children, have been transformed positively.
On his part, the Founder and Executive Director of ADANU, Mr Richard Yinkah noted that 20 years in the life of the organization is a huge milestone that needs to be celebrated.
Mr. Yinkah said the anniversary will give the organisation the chance to not only appreciate their journey but also look forward to all the opportunities they have envisaged as they continue to ignite passion in Ghanaian communities across the region.
“Two decades ago, ADANU was set in motion with the belief that education, collaboration, and hard work are key elements to personal development, hope and unprecedented opportunity for sustainable community development,” Mr. Yinkah said.
He noted that ADANU was set on a modest foundation of an individual’s dream and fueled with friends passionate about empowering rural and disadvantaged communities through grassroots Ghanaian solutions.
“ADANU today birthed school and library infrastructure projects, health institutions, women-led enterprises and facilities in the areas of water, sanitation and Hygiene (WASH),” Mr Yinkah said,
He noted that their approach over the years gives communities a firm stake in major decisions that affect their lives, ownership and leadership in project implementation.
Mr. Yinkah noted that while their projects bring about infrastructure and programmes that are sustainable for the long term, it also sparks passion and ambition in community members to initiate other development projects for themselves.
Torgbega Ayim Adzokoto II of the Takla Traditional area who chaired the programme praised ADANU for their good works and called for support for the organization to enable them to reach out to more communities.
