The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced it would not transfer any votes for prospective voters for the December 28 run-off. Even though a voter might have relocated after the Sunday, December 7, 2008 presidential and parliamentary elections that could not produce a winner, the EC says any attempt to transfer votes would be illegal. In the run-up to the first elections, thousands of students transferred their votes to polling stations closer to their schools but as they are set to break for Christmas holidays, these students are likely to be back in their original constituencies. However, Acting Public Relations Officer of the Electoral Commission, Christian Owusu Pare, explained to Joy News that the EC would not be able to meet the required time-frame as stipulated in the electoral laws. “The law says that if you want to transfer your vote, you do that at least 21 days to the elections and we already have less than 21 days to the election; so that decision would be taken by the Commission whether to allow people to transfer or not.” Story by Isaac Essel
