Hajia Sherifatu Sulley, leader of a group of demonstrators calling for the dismissal of the National Security coordinator Col. (retd) Gbevlo Lartey has debunked suggestions that she breached the Public Order Act.
According to her, the group staged a peaceful demonstration at the headquarters of the ruling party to express their grievances on the conduct of the National Security Coordinator, Larry Gbevlo Lartey and did not cause any public nuisance.
Hajia Sherifatu Sulley was invited by the police Wednesday to answer possible charges of breach of the Public Order Act for organising the demonstration.
She led a group calling itself Concerned Group of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) who stormed the NDC party headquarters Tuesday to express their misgivings on the conduct of the National Security Coordinator.
They accused the Security Coordinator of creating division in the party in his bid to ensure his son becomes the Member of Parliament for the Hohoe Constituency and working against President J.E.A. Mills when he purchased a vehicle for a chief in the Volta Region who is alleged to have publicly insulted the president.
But the Security Coordinator has vehemently denied the allegations insisting that it is just a ploy by some persons within the NDC to get him out of office.
However, on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday, Hajia Sherifatu Sulley stressed that “nobody is using us and nobody can use us for his or her parochial interest”.
She explained that as footsoldiers who have the party’s interest at heart, they would ensure the NDC does not go back into opposition due to the conduct of some governmental officials.
Hajia was very optimistic that President J.E.A. Mills would take a firm stance to oust the National Security Coordinator.
Commenting on her invitation to the Police Headquarters Wednesday, Hajia Sherifatu Sulley explained that she received a phone call from the Greater Accra Regional Commander, Rose Bio Atinga who threatened to prosecute her for breaching the Public Order Act.
Feeling very uncomfortable at the turn of events, she rushed to the Police Headquarters and was asked to write her statement.
She added that the police later gave her a self recognisance bail.
Hajia maintained that the group had to halt their nationwide demonstration because they did not give the police enough notice hence the decision to present their petition to officials at the party office.
The NDC woman found it surprising that the police had taken a sudden interest in the issue she considers as an internal party matter.
She remains unperturbed at moves to intimidate her for expressing her opinions on pressing issues of the party which could lead to their defeat in 2012.
Hajia Sherifatu Sulley has been asked to report to the Police Headquarters on Thursday, October 6, 2011 for further investigations.
