The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dared the government to arrest its flagbearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over allegations he caused a judgment debt in the sale of the controversial drill ship.

The Judgment Debt Commission in its report indicted Nana Addo for his role in the matter.

Addressing a news conference today, the NPP leadership dismissed the report.

According to Joy News parliamentary correspondent, Kwakye Afreh Nuamah, the NPP thinks this is simply a deliberate attempt by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to paint Akufo-Addo black.

Another key point they made in this regard is that Justice Yaw Appau who was the Judgment Debt Commissioner then was only doing the bidding of the NDC.

Apau, the NPP Acting General Secretary, John Boadu, said was doing this in anticipation of a reward, which he got with an appointment to the Supreme Court.  

Deputy Communications Director of the NPP, Anthony Abayifa Karbo, reiterates this is not a mere allegation.

Karbo said, “If you look at the chronology of events, Akufo-Addo who was the main person at the center of the controversy indicated to the Committee his preparedness to appear before it to give evidence that will lead to unraveling the truth of the matter."

“Justice Appau clearly and blatantly ignored Akufo-Addo’s request. He went ahead and indicted Akufo-Addo and gave the NDC this opportunity to accuse him,” he said.

The NPP has, therefore, thrown a challenge to the government to arrest and prosecute him if he is involved in the sale of the drill ship. 

“If you claim someone has committed financial loss to the state, what you do is to retrieve the money and punish the culprit. We are challenging the NDC and the IGP to institute an action, arrest Akufo-Addo and prosecute him.
