A New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Parliamentary aspirant has petitioned the National Executive Council (NEC) to annul and re-run the Mampong primary.

Benjamin Arthur's petition follows what he described as “the injustice, unfair treatment” meted out to him and “the violation of the rules and regulations meant for running the primaries.”

According to him, the photo album used in the conducting of the primary was in violation of Articles 34 and 39 (f) of the Rules and Regulations Act in the party’s constitution as a result of the removal and replacement of certain delegates in the register.

He said although he and another aspiring MP, as well as other affected polling station executives, had petitioned against the use of that photo album, their pleas have fallen on deaf ears.

He also added that at a meeting with the MCE involving the Municipal Security Council Members all aspirants, the NPP Constituency Election Committee Members and the Municipal Electoral Commission Officer on Tuesday June 16, “concerns on the album and the biasedness of four members of the Elections Committee were again raised by me and Hon. Addai Nimo.

“There was the assurance that the right album will be used and that we should wait for the album being brought from National (John Boadu) for exhibition and comments,” however this too had proven futile as on June 18, the wrong album had been served by the Ashanti Regional Secretariat.

Mr Arthur bemoaned the gross involvement of unqualified voters and the use of intimidation by the incumbent MP to manipulate the election in his favour.

"In the morning of the voting day, the EC officials, in connivance with the incumbent prevented most of my agents from getting close to the inner perimeter of the voting premises despite agreeing to all the various protocols on agent’s accreditation.

"Within the first one and a half hours of voting, the incumbent intimidated most of the voters present compelling them to take photos/videos of how they voted. This intimidated lots of the voters contrary to the guidelines for the elections."

He further stated that "even after the voting, the incumbent and his team had gone for the ballot papers from the EC, made copies and are roaming asking those who voted for me and Addai Nimo to return all the monies he paid to them. This has been possible because the EC officials wrote the serial numbers and the initials of voters at the back of the ballot papers."

As a result, he is petitioning the NEC to annul the Mampong Parliamentary primaries to allow for the system to be sanitized before going ahead to conduct a re-run.
