Errant New Patriotic Party Members of Parliament have been barred from publicly commenting and supporting candidates vying for the flagbearer position of the party.
The move is part of efforts to ensure discipline in the party ahead of the party's primaries, hopefully on December 6, 2014.
The Minority caucus is scheduled to have a meeting in Parliament on Wednesday to discuss the matter, Joy News' Parliamentary correspondent Elton John Brobbey has said.
The race for the party's flagbearer position has not been without controversy as key party members, some of whom are in leadership positions have been reported to have openly declared their support for one candidate or another.
MP for Weija, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey was reported to have said that over 100 MPs already are in support of the candidature of Nana Akufo-Addo.
But the party's General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong is unhappy with such utterances and has condemned the conduct describing it as a breach of the party's regulations.
He said while MPs like any other individual have a right to support any candidate, they are not to openly declare support or campaign for their candidates.
He warned disciplinary actions would be taken against the wayward MPs and other leading members of the party who flagrantly breach the party's regulation.
"It is time to ensure discipline in the party," he warned.
The MPs seemed to have fallen in line.
Elton John Brobbey reported Tuesday that the MPs have refused to comment any further on the matter and are expected to meet tomorrow to address some of the challenges that have come up.
