The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is taking a major step toward its January 31, 2026, presidential primaries, announcing that the meticulously verified and validated provisional voter register will be released to all five aspirants next week.

The move, designed to ensure "full transparency and fairness", was announced today (November 6) by the Presidential Elections Committee (PEC) Chairman, Joseph Osei-Owusu, at a press conference at the party’s headquarters.

Mr. Osei-Owusu disclosed that the extensive nationwide verification and validation exercise, covering all constituencies and External Branches of the NPP, has been successfully concluded.

The release of the register on Thursday, November 13, 2025, will mark the beginning of a crucial vetting period for the candidates.

“The nationwide voter album verification and validation exercise, encompassing all constituencies and External Branches, has been successfully concluded. In the interest of full transparency and fairness, all aspirants will be furnished with the provisional voter register on Thursday, November 13, 2025. Two weeks will be provided for verification, observations, and feedback before finalising the register,” stated the PEC Chairman.

This two-week window grants the five competing campaigns the opportunity to scrutinise the delegate list and submit "verification, observations, and feedback" before the PEC finalises the official electoral album that will be used for the January 2026 vote.

The PEC confirmed that the validation process confirmed the integrity of the register. Although minor administrative discrepancies were found—including "wrongly spelt names, omissions, and inaccurate entries"—Mr. Osei-Owusu stressed that these did not affect the register's overall credibility.

“I am pleased to report that all such issues are currently being rectified,” he stated.

Furthermore, the exercise ensured compliance with party law, confirming the removal of delegates who were confirmed deceased or who had "forfeited their membership in accordance with Article 3(9)(1) of the party’s constitution."

The high-stakes primary will see five major political figures battle for the flagbearer position:

• Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia: Former Vice President
• Kennedy Ohene Agyapong: Former Assin Central MP
• Dr. Bryan Acheampong: Former Food and Agric Minister
• Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum: Former Education Minister
• Kwabena Agyei Agyepong: Former Press Secretary to former President John Agyekum Kufuor

The NPP is emphasising institutional discipline and security for the primary.

The party has ceded exclusive control of election-day security to the Ghana Police Service and entrusted the entire electoral process, including the printing, distribution, and monitoring of ballot papers, to the Electoral Commission (EC).

Mr. Osei-Owusu underscored the PEC's resolve, stating his “unflinching dedication to a free, fair, transparent, and credible electoral process, conducted without fear, favour, or bias.”

The Committee plans a final preparatory phase, including a series of meetings with aspirants, the EC, the Police Service, and the National Council of Elders to sign a crucial peace pact.

The Chairman urged party stakeholders to support the process, assuring:

“Together, we will uphold the NPP’s tradition of democratic excellence and institutional discipline.”
