The vetting of aspiring New Patriotic Party (NPP) executives has come to an end, Thursday, with aspirants singing a chorus of party unity ahead of what is expected to be a keenly contested election.

Twenty three aspiring executives were on Thursday subjected to rigorous vetting proceedings to ascertain their readiness to handle key national positions ahead of the 2016 election.

Martin Agyei Mensah Korsah, head of Elections committee of the party told Joy News the candidates' understanding of the party as well as the positions they were vying for, were key areas they were vetted on.

Their personal contributions to the party's successes were also subjected to severe scrutiny.

In all, 44 candidates for Chairman, Vice Chairman, General Secretary, Treasurer and Organizer went through the vetting process.

Martin Korsah said he would only release the verdict of the vetting if mandated to do so by the committee.

In a surprising departure from the fierce criticisms, allegations and counter allegations the candidates made against each other prior to the vetting, majority of the candidates came out of the vetting process more sober, parroting the need for party unity even as they jostle to remain relevant in the eyes of the delegates.

"As a General Secretary, I remain the man to beat. I believe that victory is on my side and together all of us will work and ensure 2016 victory. I have said that all my brothers, those who are competing with me have all played various roles in this party.. all of us are part of the same team and together we will win the 2016 elections," incumbent General Secretary of the party Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie stated.

His contender Kwabena Agyapong said he is in to rejuvenate and energize the party at the grass root.

"That spirit of dedication, sacrifice, service and selflessness that was the main rallying point in 1992, which appears to have died down a bit and i am here to activate that... to believe in the virtues that drove us into power in 2000. I think we can do it," he stated.

According to Nkrabeah Effah Darteh, another General Secretary aspirant, "vigilance, experience, alertness, unity and togetherness" are what he will bring for NPP's victory in 2016, if he is elected as General Secretary.

The elections have been slated for April, 12, 2014 in Tamale.
