The much-anticipated 2025 edition of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) officially kicks off today, Monday, October 20, igniting a nationwide academic showdown among some of Ghana’s brightest senior high school minds.

The preliminary stage opens with 147 schools locked in intellectual battle, all vying for a coveted place in the next round of this prestigious competition.

This year’s championship features a total of 174 schools, with 27 already earning automatic qualification to the one-eighth stage.

That leaves the remaining schools with everything to fight for in the intense preliminaries scheduled to run from October 20 to 24, 2025.

The opening day features nine thrilling contests, showcasing a diverse mix of schools from across Ghana’s regions:

2. Wovenu SHTS vs KNUST SHS vs Afua Kobi Ampem Girls’ SHS
3. Kwahu Tafo SHS vs Tarkwa SHS vs Edinaman SHS

5. O’Reilly SHS vs St. Andrews SHS vs SDA SHS, Bekwai

8. Manya Krobo SHS vs Sogakope SHS vs St. Joseph’s SHS
