Assin South Member of Parliament (MP), Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has praised former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his efforts in fostering unity among the five aspirants who are contesting in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming presidential primary.

On Tuesday, October 21, 2025, the former president hosted a breakfast meeting with the aspirants at his private residence in Nima, Accra.

The meeting, according to a statement from his office , was aimed at fostering unity and camaraderie among the aspirants as the party prepares the primary, slated for January 31, 2026.

Speaking in a one-on-one interview on JoyNews on Wednesday, Rev. Ntim Fordjour described the former president’s decision to bring the aspirants together before the primary as a commendable step towards strengthening the NPP. He said Mr. Akufo-Addo has showed leadership.

"I want to commend former president Akufo-Addo for the leadership he has demonstrated. It was a very beautiful engagement, anyone that has any contrarily view about the unity within the NPP, if you were there yesterday to witness what went on in the residence with all the five aspirants, you will revise your note," he said.

"He continue to urge them and encourage them to conduct their campaign in a way that could keep the unity of the party," he added.

The MP said Nana Akufo-Addo’s call for unity was timely and essential for maintaining the party’s internal harmony.

He urged all factions to adhere to the former president's advice and put aside personal interests and rally behind the party’s leadership to ensure a strong, united front going forward.

"I believe all aspirants will heed to these advice in good faith and keep the unity of our party, together with their supporters to ensure that their messages and campaign utterances are measured and ones that will not plug us into further difficulties."
