The National Union of Ghana welcomes president Barack Obama to Ghana, on his first visit to Sub-Saharan Africa.
The choice of Ghana for the visit, the union said, has given the country yet another first. Ghana was the first country south of the Sahara to gain independence.
In a statement jointly signed by the NUGS President, Ishmael Tweneboa-Kodua and Press and Information Secretary, Malik Abass Daabu, the union said the visit was a testament to the democratic strides being made by the country.
While celebrating the feat, the union calls on all Ghanaians to continue to demonstrate maturity and tolerance as the country treks the tricky snaky road of democracy.
"We as a people must let the story of Obama inspire us so that we resist the temptation to take this country down the road of chaos," the statement said.
It appealed to politicians to learn from the conduct of the first black president and focus on the core issues that matter to the Ghanaian people.
"Tearing each other apart on a daily basis does not alleviate the suffering of our people".
