Ghana Football Association president has decided not to seek reelection when his tenure expires in 2019.
Kwesi Nyantakyi has been in charge of the country’s football affairs since 2005, serving three terms. At the last election, he stood unopposed and it appears he has no competitor to topple him.
But most Ghanaians are not enthused with him and calls for Nyantakyi to step down intensified following Black Stars failed attempt at the 2017 Africa cup of Nations and his election to the FIFA executive council.
Nyantakyi believes he has paid his dues and will not resurface on the local football scene again.
''Indeed, I have no plans to entrench myself in the position as it is a privileged post; at a point, I would have to leave and there is no better time to do so than when applaud is very loud,'' Nyantakyi told the Graphic Sports.
''I don't think I'm the only person capable of leading Ghana football. I can do so much but not everything. Besides, I think we all must take a page from the wind of change blowing in FIFA on reforms which among things place a limit on the term of president.''
The astute lawyer has gone on to make strides at CAF where is an Executive Committee member and also a member of the new FIFA Council.
His positions on the CAF Executive committee and FIFA Council will expire in 2021.
